hm, i'd say get the 50/1.8 first, since it's really really cheap. If this is your only lens, you might struggle with the focal length though, since 50 isn't wide at all. so the cheap 50 + another wider lens could be a good combination.
or you can also try the EF 28/1.8 intsead which will give the same aperture speed but is wider than the 50....
